We always flush out the water main after a repair through fire hydrants, whenever possible. However you may notice spurting air, cloudy water, or discoloration, when you turn your faucet on. The air spurting and cloudiness are both caused by trapped air in the water main pipes. The discoloration is from iron sediment that is either in your pipes or in ours and has been disturbed. None of these conditions are considered unsafe or unhealthy.
If you notice any of the these conditions, the best thing to do is to let the water run on the cold side only of your plumbing system, till it clears. Do not turn on the hot side until the cold side runs clear. If this sequence is not followed, the water in the hot water heater can hold one or more of these problems for an extended period of time. This work could be cancelled because of construction conditions or bad weather.
