THE JACOB SCHUNK HOMESTEAD

N104W15446 Donges Bay Road
~1858~

Jacob, an immigrant from Germany first settled in the state of New York before coming to Wisconsin. Many that came from New York brought with them the knowledge of dairy farming. This emigration of Yankees to Wisconsin happened at a time when the wheat crop was failing and the prices had dropped from over production. On many farms this gradual but very successful transition from growing wheat to raising dairy cows propelled Wisconsin to become known as the Dairy State. This limestone Greek Revival has the distinction of being a Washington County Landmark and is on the State & National Historic Registers.

This homestead received Germantown Historic Designation in 2006
